* electric limo golf cart – $2634 Maria Abertone FRAUD SCAMMER uses Email Address mar1abertone.com

This is the text message she uses in craigslist ads nationwide:

Limo style golf cart with folding windshild, mirrors, lights, horn, custom sound system with CD player AM/FM raido.fully carbon fiber dash board with 4 cup holders and 2 storage compartments.Custom black, blue, and silver diamond plate paint job.For more info please email me at: [email protected]

This what she sent me via email when I asked about the golf cart:

Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for your interest for my golf cart. I am selling it at this price ($2600) because I just finished the divorce with my husband. When the divorce has finished i own this golf cart. Now as a woman i don’t need it.

This golf cart is in excellent working condition, no scratches, flaws or any kind of damage, slightly used in 100% working and looking conditions and comes with a clear title.

From the beginning you have to know that for the payment I request only secure pay, I prefer the payment to be done using eBay services. We will use a safe payment method because I am affiliated at eBay and I have a purchase protection account for $20,000. The final price that I want for this golf cart is $2600 US including shipping and handling.

If you are interested in buying it please provide me your full name and address so I can initiate the deal through eBay.

I will wait your answer(if you are interested to buy) very soon.

There IS no buyer protection from EbaY UNLESS you use Ebay for the transaction.

****I emailed her back to find out if the cart was local because we would have to see the actual product before we paid anything. This was my interesting reply she sent back:

    Hello,

The golf cart is already at the shipping company in Miami,Florida sealed and ready for the shipping. I have a contract with eBay so this deal must go through them. I’m very busy with my job and I’m left out of the town so I can’t meet in person with you so this is the reason why I chose to sell my golf cart over the internet. According to eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the golf cart to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.

Here is how it will work:

1.First of all I will need the following details from you:
    – Full Name
    – Full Shipping Address
    2. After I will receive the details from you, I will forward them to eBay.
    3. After they will process your info, they will send us both invoices.
The invoice will send you the details on how to make a refundable payment.
    4. eBay will contact me and I will ship the golf cart to you. After you receive the golf cart you will have 5 days to test, verify and do whatever you need to the golf cart. If you will buy, then I will receive the payment details from eBay so that I can pick up the money.
    5. If you will decide that you will not buy the golf cart, eBay will refund the money and I will have the shipping company come pick up my golf cart. If you wish to make the transaction, please send me the necessary info so that we can proceed. I look forward to hear from you.

    Thank you

    ***Here is my reply:

Thank you again for the reply. I guess I am a little concerned with the golf cart being out of state. It sounds like a legit process you are speaking of but these days I have to be very careful. Especially since I don’t know the shipping company or have ever heard of this with ebay? I have been an ebay member for years. I can’t even find the golf cart listed on ebay so I am even more confused! 🙂 I am very interested as well as my husband. I just think we need more information since we are supposed to be sending money for something we have never seen. Also- it is not stated anywhere but who pays for the actual shipping? Thanks,

SO YES IT ALL SOUNDS LIKE A SCAM TO MY HUSBAND AND MYSELF! ANOTHER THING WAS THAT WE ASKED FOR THE LENGTH MEASUREMENT OF THE GOLF CART IN OUR ORIGINAL EMAIL AND THAT WAS NEVER EVEN ADDRESSED.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS SCAM ALERT. AFTER MY REPLY TO HER I GOOGLED THE NAME AND THE EMAIL AND FOUND YOUR SITE!

Glad to know you’ve been spared from being scammed because you found the report on our site! You did the right thing: search on Google first and see what comes up regarding the matter. Those that get scammed don’t do any research work before finalizing the transaction, and end up losing lots of money in this scam.

Thanks to Mr Lee for reporting this scammer!

  3. CJ says:

Yes- thank you so much! 🙂 I will be posting the next email I receive from this scammer. Maybe that will help someone too!

I just took the time to search craigslist across the nation and it seems as if the postings are being flagged in every city! I have found it flagged in Raleigh, Atlanta, Washington DC, and a couple more places. Here is the post in Miami for anyone who wants to see the actual picture of the golf cart they are using. It is wayyy too nice for the price!

The link won’t work for long- I am going to flag it!

  5. CJ says:

Well that person has emailed me back to my reply.

I’m trying to find out if anyone actually sent money to this person or any other person for this scam. If you did or at least got information on where to send money, please let me know. Also, if the administrator of this page could possibly contact the posters to try to get them to post the information, it would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

Looks like they are at it again. Golf cart is listed on Craig’s list in several different cities.

I found “her” in Florence, SC. Supposedly the golf cart is in Jacksonville, NC ready to ship. They are using the name Holly Stewart and the email address [email protected]. Here is the latest email:

    Hi again,

You can see more pictures here http://s1128.photobucket.com/albums/m485/myelectricgolfcart/

Please take a few moments and read my email carefully, I know it is long, but because I received too many offers, I will explain all the details about the transaction. The golf cart is located in Jacksonville, NC (i just moved here with my new job) is already crated at the shipping company ready to be sent to any location anywhere in USA,like i told you i’ll like to use ebay purchase protection because is safe for botQh,let me tell you how it work:

    1. Buyer, seller reach an agreement (price and delivery conditions)

    2. Buyer sends money to eBay.

    3. eBay confirms to seller that the amount has been received.

    4. Seller performs the required services (shipping, insurance).

    5. Buyer accepts delivery and informs eBay about the acceptance.

    6. eBay releases the money to seller.

As you can see, you will receive the golf cart BEFORE any money is released to me. You will get the chance to inspect it, test drive it and everything you like while your money is still safely held in eBay’s account. ONLY after you confirm to eBay that you agree with the golf cart, they will release the money to me.

If, for some reason, you disagree with the golf cart (I assure you that is NOT going to happen since my golf cart is in IMMACULATE condition inside and out) it will be shipped back to me on MY EXPENSE and eBay will send you your money back.

I need your full name and full shipping address so i can open this deal with eBay.

    Thanks,

    Holly Stewart

I spoke with ebay who said it was probably a fraud. And you guys have confirmed it. Thanks for the help!
