Hello,
I’ve been on the job search for a Security Officer position and I came across an ad that was looking for guards.
I noticed his spelling wasn’t very good and his email led to a gmail.
Here’s his ad.
“security men are needed in the company,interested applicant should
email [email protected] with resume with name an address
and phone number,its an unarmed operation time 9.00am-3pm
$500 per week,pls get back with resume or name,address and phone no
chris stokes angie
recruting manager”
So I contacted him.
Here’s his reply.
“hello,
thanks for the reply,your application has been approved,the company is located at 901 Lodi Street, Syracuse, NY 13203.we are urgently in need of security so we will need you to come for an interview date is 12th feb 2009,the company will be responsible for the cost of transportation to and from your location,a check will be sent to you,be rest assured that you will start work the 2nd day of the interview,pls get back to me if you are ok with this and if the company can send the payment out to you.I NEED TO KNOW IF YOU WILL BE COMING FOR THE INTERVIEW

Why will they be sending you a check? You have not even started working yet. If the check is to cover your expenses, how did they determine beforehand how much you should be reimbursed? Sounds fishy already. Companies who reimburse you to relocate usually do that AFTER — not before. And you need to prove your expenses with paperwork, receipts, etc.
Sounds suspicious what they’re doing.
Also, can you ask them to DESCRIBE their building/office? Pretend like you’re interested in going and you just want to make sure you will find the right place. Ask them what buildings or landmarks are next to them. Then you can compare what they say to sites like Google Maps. You can actually view the address before going…
I read the same ad, and sent in an application. I got the same feeling. I keep writing them and asking questions. I want all the info I can get before hand.

its a 1 day training and you are not requited to pay anything,a check will be sent to you to cover your transportation to and from the company.the address i emailed earlier is the venue of the interview,you will be posted to the nearest companys office close to you.you will get more information when you come for the interview.the check will be sent to you.
Its a scam no company is that stupid to send random checks. Also there is no registered company called Angies Fabrics anywhere in the USA. Keep asking questions and when they get aggressive about you cashing the check and send some back it is a scam, this one however is confusing due to the fact that there not sending you a check and asking for cash back. I personally would push for company information but looks like they will tell you all about the check and nothing else. Oh and that address they gave you be aware of the body guard for hire scams on craigs list, they tell you there family is coming out and they send you a check (fake) and ask you to send money back to there “travel agent” ya same address
its is not a scam,i have worked in the companys branch is ohio,they are just in need in urgent need of security guards.

Got the same thing, sounds pretty scammy to me.
So, I just got a check for $2500 in the mail via UPS and the following email sent to me…
hello,
the check has been sent out to you here is the ups tracking XXXX XXX XXXX ,a check for the branch in middlesex area NY to co-ordinate the interview was mistaken sent to you,but there is no problem with that,have the check cashed,remove the money that will take you from your location to the venue of the interview and send the remaining asap via money gram or western union
to the branch manager in the area here is here info

and get back to me with the transfer details so she can get that asap and preparation for the interview can be put in place.i await your reply with the details

This is most definitely a scam, that last post pretty much confirms it.
The same exact thing happened to my husband. He responded to an E-mail on Craigslist for a security guard. (Even sent his resume — that’s scary.) They respond with a date and address for the intereview. He E-mailed “Chris Stokes” wanting to know more about the company and the time of the interview; he received no reply. That’s when we became suspicious. I put a posting on Craigslist letting people know that the job offer is a scam!

Good for you. I wrote to a few agency, however, have not heard back from anyone! I’d really like to see these people get caught. Not only are they wasting people’s time, they are giving them a hope of a job to people who are probably out of work.

well kiddies heres what i did i used aproxy and i got everything i could from these scammers they sent me a check i gave it to the fraud dept i got numerous emails each one a little more meant than the last trying to scare me hahaha so funny well here is all the letters and whatnot enjoy! dont get scammed !
