* Rev. James Gomes on Craigslist

Rev. James Gomes (probably a fake name) responds to furniture advertisements on Craigslist, then sends a check with an overpayment. He then instructs the seller to send the remaining money (usually $2000) back via MoneyGram. The check is fake, and the scammer disappears. He uses the email [email protected].

I really wished that this guy could be taken down the hard way. I kept telling my husband that this was a scam but he did not believe me. Considering all the information he asked for he never stated his name or business considering he says he has a secretary. My husband is handicapped and wanted to sell his motorized wheelchair considering were we live is not big enough for the chair. And the fact we could of really used the money. I was supsious of this any way when he asked for the ad to be removed. As of yet we have not seen check or money and I guess we won’t my next email to him will not be so nice.

He’s still at it. As soon as I saw his email – copied below – I did a scam search becase it didn’t look right. I notified Craig’s List and filed a complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center. I urge everyone else who has been scammed or the target of this scammer to report it as well

I have had a few since posting several craigslist ads from [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
Example of the 1st scam below after I initially responded not knowing it was a con.
Dateline should do an story on this scam since it must work or they would not be doing it for so many years.
