I am currently in the process of being scammed (they are attempting to, anyway!) by two different individuals. Both of them are the result of my answering job postings on craigslist. The first one was for a caregiver for a man with Alzheimers Disease. Some time after I inquired about the job and sent my resume, I was notified that I was one of three people who were being considered, and they wanted to know what my salary requirements were, hours of availability, and what I wanted for transportation expenses. It was also stated that they were in London and would be moving to Denver in mid-February, and gave the address where they would be “leaving” in Denver. I responded. Again, some time passed and I was notified that I had been selected for the position (yay!) and that they needed my full name and address so that they can send me a US Cashier Check (which they cannot cash in UK…)for my “first weeks salary”….plus $3000….which I need to send to thier ticket agent in London ( Western Union) to purchase the Family’s flight tickets…
Yeah. OK. I looked up the address they gave me, and it’s a Deli in the 16th Street mall!!
I am playing along now. I received a new e-mail today informing me that I should expect the check around the 19th of January.
The second one was my response to an ad on craigslist for a bartender. About 2 weeks passed before I got an e-mail from the Man who claimed his bar was not open yet, and he was still in Ireland. He requested my assistance with his “liqour shipper”…he sends me the money order and I deduct $300 for my trouble and send the rest to someone in Kansas City. A google-earth image of the “liquor shipper’s” address shows a run-down duplex in what is quite obviously a poor, working-class neighborhood, and a reverse-address look-up gives the name of an entirely different person for that address. According to the scammer, he sent the money order to me 2 days ago, via UPS. He provided a tracking number and the tracking shows that it originated in Tennesee. I have not recieved it yet.
