I inquired as to purchasing a Dell XPS 1730 Laptop at an unbelieveable price. No mention in ad of mailing the item.

After saying I would buy it I received this email.

Hello,

I’ll sell the laptop to you at $1800 if you want but without the accessories and NO trades because my husband has a gambling problem and made a loan on the house without me knowing, lost the money gambling, and very very desperately need the money to pay the bank or our house will be taken and we’ll be left homeless. And we have 3 kids, all under 10. The laptop is brand new, only slightly used. For the payment we will use eBay for both our safety. I’ll be waiting for your email very soon to talk about payment/shipping issues.
Thanks,
Judith

I then recieved this EMAIL

Hello again,
The laptop is here with me in Portland, ME. I’m very busy with work and then the children and can’t meet in person with you and that is the reason why I chose to sell my laptop over the internet. I have a contract with eBay and have a purchase protection account of $20,000, so the deal must go through them. According to eBay you have 5 days from the time you receive the laptop to check it out and decide if you want to keep it or not. If you want to buy it please email me your name and address for shipping so I can initiate the transaction through eBay. After that they will contact you with all necessary information about how to make a refundable payment.
Thank you,
Judith

What happens next is that I will recieve an email from Ebay (Supposedly -very official looking) with all this crap about protection, being able to return the item after 5 days, etc…and with a section that is linked to Western Union that you are supposed to fill out and to whom to send it to.

Usually this is a different person. It really doesn’t matter since they can go to ANY Western Union office and retrieve the money as long as they know the name and city to where it was sent. So Ongo Mapopo in Nigeria is at their Western Union office, or his cousin living in the states goes to one there and collects the money. NO ID REQUIRED!

Please write your Senator and Congressman to enact a law requiring that wired money requires that ID and a fingerprint is retrieved prior to releasing the money. Western Union is responsible for 7 billion dollars in illegal transactions it is estimated by the FBI.

I will be leaving the name of the person who I am to wire them money to once they send it to me. I do not give them my real name and address. I do this only to waste their time since I am homebound anyways.
