ScamRadar - Report Frauds and ScamsPart-time Babysitter needed

I was searching for a job on Craigslist and found someone looking for a part-time babysitter, so I emailed them applying for the job. But it sounded too good to be true so I started to do some research after reading some postings that had VERY similar details and exact words, just different name. Below is the email from Mr. Higgins(Paul Higgins) and wife name (Maeve Higgins). The articles that I have read that has the same information states that he uses the name Junior Field or Mr. Field.

    Hi Ashley,

I too stumbled upon this exact same scam except in New York City. The emails you posted were word for word with the emails I was sent. I went as far as to give him my mailing address and phone number before I realized it was a scam. After that I was actually sent a check in the mail from an address in Florida but the check was made out from a copy in Washington state. The check was a terrible fake. It was an over-sized, blurry photocopy of an actual check. The back of the check had no markings. The same day I was mailed the check I received numerous calls from a number in Oregon but didn’t answer. The same number then text me saying it was “Mr. Paul” asking if I had received the check and that I should deposit it immediatly. I respond by text that I knew the whole thing was a scam and he text me back confused and said that he didn’t know what I was talking about. I told him that I found the scam online and not to contact me again. I haven’t heard back since. I am still confused as to what the point of this scam was. Besides the obvious waste of my time and effort, I don’t get what these scammers were trying to obtain. Some people who were involved in the same scam suggested that when you deposit the check it later bounces and then you are on the hook for that money but there was no way I could have deposited the check I was sent. Even if I was dumb enough to do so, the check was so fake that any teller would have caught it before hand and any electronic teller would not have accepted it. So, what were they after? The only information they obtained from me was my name, phone number, and mailing address (different from where I reside). I don’t feel too threatened because they same info could be obtained by anyone just by searching the internet. I will continue to monitor the situation but I just wanted to see if your attorney aunt was able to uncover anything.
