I think the possibility of a scam comes from this paragraph,

Did he send you a check for more than the $300 he first mentioned? I think he would then instruct you to purchase certain items”for their arrival” and either have you send them or leave them somewhere that his “assistant” would recover them. Then when the check didn’t clear, YOU would be responsible for the $.

Also read Hang Tran’s post from October 5th, 2011 and Mariza’s post from October 20th, 2011. The scammers send you a check and tell you to cash it. Take your “wages” out of it (which you WILL have to return to the bank when they WILL find the check to be fake) and send the balance back to them via Western Union. What you are sending them is real $……and the bank is going to demand that you return it when they find out the check is a fake. You will be held responsible for that cash, you will be charged with fraud since YOU cashed the check!!!!! Many Banks are on the lookout for these scams and won’t even cash the check, but some will. If you have any doubts and still think this is a real opportunity, tell the bank what you are going to do(send someone you’ve never met a big chunk of the $ from that check) and they will tell you it is a scam!!!!!
P.S. They WILL ask for either $ from the check to be wired to them, or some item(usually electronics) be sent to their “representative” or “accountant” or “financier” or “estate agent” or “personal assistant” here in the states, to prepare for their arrival.
Just take the time to read the previous posts! You will only be scammed if you refuse to see that the effort they put into this is because there are poor suckers out there who WANT it to be true and they DO get their money.
I got the same email, different combination of names. I thought it was really strange that the “from” and signed name did not match the name in the email and that the grammar was so poor. I googled the name and company and found this thread. The company, however, is a real company. Here is what I was sent:

Here is what you would do when as receive it just carefull fill your names on the money orders,i left it open just to avoid mistakes on your names and after complete filling the names before going to bank,then take the Check to your bank and have it deposited into your account.It should clear your bank after some hours today. As soon as you have the funds ,you would proceed with the following:
1. Deduct your $500(one weeks pay) as deposit for your services of babysitting my KID while you send the rest of the funds to the store agent who would be supplying you with the KID items as soon as she gets the payment via Overnight courier.

I got the same e-mail from Keisha Laurel of Sojitz Corp. to watch “Julianna”. I figured it was a scam but could not find any bad info. so I cautiously continued to send e-mails back and forth. She even at one point asked if I would like a souviner from London.
Today I got two packages in the mail each one had two moneygram money orders for $950 each (total 4 money orders for $950). The money orders are so fake it is not even funny. They have a heat sensor where the logo disappeares when you press your thumb on it. Not only does it not work but, they spelled it hear sensor instead of heat. Even if I was stupid enough to fall for this the money orders are such bad fakes, I couldn’t cash or deposit them if I wanted! I have yet to been asked to send money anywhere.
I do have one question these appear to have been mailed to me by a real person in New Jersy is this person also a fraud or have they been de-frauded? Is there anyone I should contact or just throw them away and forget about it?
They are now trying it under a new name: Mike Lucas. I’ve flagged it on craigslist, but just wanted to give a warning to everyone that the name and position are different in this ad. Here is the email I received around midnight tonight:

Following my last comment, I relocated because I want nothing to do with these people and who knows what they would do.

This same just happend to me but now the mans name is Hali safford he sent me a check but i never did anything with it I was to scared they ask your your zip say they are moving close to you and that they will send you a check its fake let me tell you. DO NOT DO THIS AT ALL ITS ALL A SCAM. they even sent me a list of things to by like a baby crib and car seat and ect. they need mental help.

Right away, I got suspicious, and forwarded it to a couple of friends who also said it looked like a scam. Hey, I am in need of money, but not THAT bad! I am not going to go to jail/prison for attempting to cash a bad check. Understandibly, the economic situations in alot of countries aren’t the greatest, and it’s a shame people have to resort to this sort of thing to get by. But, when people are doing it JUST for the sake of ruining other peoples’ lives, without any remorse, they deserve to get what is coming to them, period.

This just happened to me. I was so excited that I found a job then the ladies e-mails got weird. She wanted to pre-pay me and she wanted a wheelchair to be sent to my house. “She” also kept saying I will be moving to “your area” “next week” I kept thinking why is there so much details but, a lack of the important information. The original job offer was from a different posting and they referred me to her.

That same nanny /babysitting scam happened to me 2 months ago. An ad on Craigslist and talk about feeling like a dumb ass. Bad thing is I really thought I scored a great job. Usually if it sounds too good to be true…it is. Live and learn. Those people that run those scams suck ! Bad ju ju for them in the end.

I’ve been contacted by text messages by two different scammers who got my phone # from my profile at Care.com…This is a very complex and extremely well-orchestrated money laundering scheme as checks come from Real Estate and Vacation property rental companies here in the states that appear to be honest and legit companies. They have done their homework..so beware!!! Only respond to people who are local…have regular interview in public place and bring a friend ( witness ) with you. Just be careful, protect yourself. Legit. People do not pay you upfront..without even meeting you…Don’t give out personal info in emails or text messages. Don’t be uninformed…get educated on all of the different scams out there. Be patient..the right job will come!
These bloody criminals! All they do is go their beds at night and dream of ways to scam people out of their hard earned money. My daughter is away at college and received a similar message today. She has a very basic profile posted on care.com as she is looking for part time work. This was the message she received: Hello, Thanks so much for your message, I am convinced with your resumes and will not want to lose the service of someone like you. I would want to make the payment before my arrival cause I don’t want to lose your services and also because I really will be busy after the vacation that is why I intend to make all necessary payment before my arrival because there won’t be much time as I’ll also need to get myself prepared for work. Josh’s mother died two months ago in a motor accident you could imagine how the stress of taking care of a 4 year old baby and at the same time preparing for work would be on me.I hope you understand this with me. Please send me the fee for the first weekend at least as I am ready to pay you $400 for 3 days for a start and the period I will be needing you is 5pm-8.45pm. I hope you are okay with this. Thankful my daughter runs every thing by me before making a move and I told her that the offer sounds too good to be true. I told her not to send any personal information to him until I get a chance to do some research. Then I came across all this information of similar experiences that you guys have been having.

In his first message he said that the child’s mother died in a car accident but in his second message he uses the phrase ‘job will include pick up of our baby from the daycare’. The English was also terrible and the whole thing was smelling very fishy to me. Thank God I was able to spare my child from this horror! I hope more persons will see this and become aware and alert to these scams. Good luck!
I further told my daughter that if she decides to take a babysitting job I would rather her not work for a single man. A single mother or family would be best as he could be a serial rapist for all I know!

This is a complete scam! I personally got sent an email with someone with the exact same name and company name and even Julianna’s name (“his three year old daughter”). I was confused at first on how he even got my email or knew I was looking for a job as a nanny, but soon it made complete sense. I went through the entire process and he even sent me a check before meeting me to supposedly get me to buy the “baby stuff” to get everything prepared before he even landed a foot on the U.S. A good thing was that I started getting information on whether this was a scam or not, thankfully I ran into this website and saw that it really was too good to be true. I don’t see how these people continue to do this kind of stuff without getting caught and be sent to prison. I got a check and before even cashing it in, I asked him a lot of questions and told me I would like an answer to all of them before checking the check. I got no reply and was sooo glad I figured this scam out before I spent money that I didn’t even have. I wish there was some way to catch these people! I still have the check as a reminder to always check things out before giving personal information online to a complete scamer stranger. Something that also made me check if this was a scam was the fact that the check was signed with a complete different name. Hopefully this post helps someone like this website helped me not make a huge mistake!

I got a babysitting job offer from a James Anderson and I was a bit scheptic when they asked for my personal info so I decided to do a check on the email address and company and these scam alerts are all am seeing. I received the same response as you did from a “James Anderson.” The company he says he works for does not exist. The odd thing is that I responded to an entirely different child care add from a “Mr. Koch” who supposedly had an older child with special needs. “Mr. Anderson” responded to an ad I never saw. It’s getting desperate when they can’t even keep their scams in order lol.
Not all ads on craigslist are fake. I just would not respond to anyone from out of the area. There are also good paying jobs for experienced people through agencies and the employer will pay the fees (don’t sign up if agency requests that you pay the fee). Good luck to all of you.

I was on a nanny site got a message wanting to hire me. They wanted to send me 2,638.00 to cash and for me to wire the remaing money after I get to keep $400. the bank contacted me said this check is bad and flagged and the account the check came from has been used before. what is this all about? I was never asked to send them any money why would they need me to do this for them? I can give you all the info I have on this person.
