I almost fell for this scam on May 25, 2010. I responded to a Craigslist ad for a Virtual Assistant. Thank God for this scam alert. The email came from Mark White. I knew this was a scam with all the grammatical errors and misspelled words. After wasting much of my time this morning, here’s the final email below before I told this scammer I planned to report him/her to the FTC.

cuireer company UPS or USPS i will be paying for the postage as well. So
please do go to any Office Depot, Staples or Wal-Mart store and get the
Business size check paper) and order for the software online { Versa Check
Gold 2010}. so that you can start the tutorial by noon tomorrow i will tutor
you how to make a daily list of my client.The list will be sent to you via
email daily. You will only have to work only two or three hours on your job
according to the hours that suit you best during the day.

I was in a similiar situation.I got an email from a person called Anna Lee email address [email protected]. After emailing back and forth, with the same shopping list as everyone else got, I asked her for her company name. She said it was Lefage Cement located in UK and S. Africa. It was the same story, they would reimburse all expenses with the first pay check blah, blah. What made me suspicious is that she said not to order the software on line, but to go to staples or wmart to buy it. She said they will ask too many questions on line!! However, when I did go online, I saw your website and was grateful for the reviews. Thanks for posting all these scam stories. You saved my from another one.
Well they are back at it again. I got an email out of the blue. They said they got my name from the Chamber of Commerce … yeah, right?
Anyway, I got a US Postal Money Order for $850 to go buy the software I need, etc.
I can’t get them to tell me anything about their company. I just know that payroll and taxes go hand-in-hand and this is really shady looking.

NEED HELP…….NEED HELP.FAST…. I FEEL FOR THE WHOLE JOB SCAM……..Thought I was doing the right thing by sending out commotion checks to Kelvin Rutty’s clients.
He provided me with all the information ect…….I mailed them out, still thinking that everything is OK because why would G7 sell the product to do these checks if everything was legit. Now I advised him that I will no longer do them & he is threating me and my family…..He has my resume so he has my house number.
He said that he will call the FBI…ect….now he wants me to do another month’s worth of checks and he will never bother me again….All the IM Chats that we had I emailed to myself as backup documents…….

I almost fell for this scam too. They asked me to buy the Versa Gold software for $80 and whole bunch of shipping supplies. The funny thing about this that I don’t think I ever replied to their ad to begin with and if so it was under a different heading. Here is the full email that they sent me.

I contacted a lawyer who set-up a meeting w/ a local FBI agent. Since I had several IM conversations documenting that I didn’t know the job was a fraud, the FBI took my info & advised me to stay in contact with them re: the matter. I posted before during the summer when I almost fell for this and I can’t believe its still going on. These people are from Nigeria and are scamming people using fake craigslist ads. What they do is give you BS tasks to do and then you email them to the person. Then, they will ask you for a copy of a cashiers check at ur bank which they forge and use to write fake checks. DO NOT SEND THEM ANYTHING. It is a huge scam and has caused many to change their bank information. Any check they send you will be a fake and to be sure of it take it to the bank logo that is on the check and they can tell you for sure. These bastards need to go down the only way is to stop responding to their ads.
Well I can tell that everyone has been scammed like me, I have a David, Gary and a Fred. Now they have sent me cash via western union though. They are very persitant and will not leave you alone when they want something done. I am waiting for payment today through western union and I will come back and post to this site and lt you know if I was paid. I was first contacted by David and he sent me his driver’s license picture of his daughter and so forth. His im even has the property management company on it. Well I never got paid from him and Fred the other one had disappeared for nearly 2 weeks after promising to pay me and advised me that his father had passed away in Germany. Now the last one is Gary and he has no problem being persistant either but he still will not tell me where he is from nor what company he is working for. It is so hard to find an online job that is legit so that I can make extra money. Lets stomp them out.
I also had this happen once before and once just a couple days ago. People sending me this. If its legit they will provide you with the materials and a company site. I knew it was a scam when I couldn’t do it because I didn’t have the money for it and months later the guy was still asking me to work for him. No one does that at a legit place.Plus I’d seen something on t.v. a long time ago about a lady who was caught in a mailing scam she thought was legit and this reminded me of it.
i got the same thing except i only gave my name and number and address before knowing that this was a fraud i didnt go any further to know this shit was a fake. should i contact my bank just incase or what and am i at risk.

Here is the latest installment on the VERSA saga. It apparently sends mails to people who have posted ads in their local Craigslist. I received a 2 line e-mail stating that they needed a payroll person. When I answered the mail with questions, I got an automatic reply. It was way to soon to type something up that quickly. I am attaching it here for all of you out there to NOT GET SCAMMED.

I don’t know exactly which ad I responded to off of Craigslist or indeed.com got me into this, but I am here too. Got suspicious because of grammar/spelling and went searching. Grateful that I did, but also very frustrated at those who would take advantage of someone who is needing a job to support his family. There are a lot of people these days looking for work not just out of some dissatisfaction with their present position but out of desperate need.

I have this guy on my yahoo messinger who is lookin for a trust worthy person to send out payroll checks on a daily basisand by doing so I can earn $800 a month from home (TAX FREE) All I have to do is buy the Versacheck paper from any Walmart, Office Max, or from the Versacheck website and he will reemburse me the money I spent. I can start tomarrow he says and all I have to do is buy the check paper and western union him the recipt.
I almost went for it but there was something not sitting right with me it seemed TOO easy and TOO good to be true. I told him that I would try to get the money for the check paper and if not he would have to wait till I got paid at the first of the month. Since then he has been tryin to push me into getting the money and getting the checks, which also sent up another (red flag)
what’s the hurry I asked him. He tells me well so he can send me the softwear (tree by the way) and I can get started. Then all I have to do is make out 86 of these checks a day and send them UPS.
So I decided to do some research and found this site and boy am I glad I did. When I get his name I’ll include it in my next post if needed. I hope I’m doing the right thing.

I went through Odesk.com feeling it was safe and then the guy declined my application though he said I was still hired and that was when the bells rang. found this site and now I feel like an ass. I was minutes away from falling for this versacheck mailing scam. Everything seemed ok, account number checked out, business checked out, so i kind of put aside this guys minor grammatical errors and bought the check paper then downloaded a free check program he provided a link for. But something still wasn’;t sitting well with me, so i started digging. Ended up on this site and immediately realize i was almost scammed (and in doing so would have committed a felony… ) Applying someone elses signature to a legal document without that persons consent is illegal. And printing a company check without being contractually employed by that company is against the law to. Thankfully, no checks were printed or mailed and i kept the reciept for the paper, so i wont be out any money.

I was told to purchase Versa check software 2012, I was told I would have a salary of 1300.00 a month. Thank god I could cancel my order after I saw this. I was supposably hired for a payroll assistant. Grammer and word for word verbatem was used with a “Kathleen Gleason” from Seagrass Texas. No number given when asked. a very generic application form was sent. No W-2 for salary. Her email is [email protected]
Replied to a newspaper classified ad in NY and was sucked into this scam. I have reported it to the newspaper along with a link to this scam report. They referenced Olde Florida Payroll a Mr. Charles Jextoban, and level two was from
MISS SARAH CAMPBELL. I’m including these references so they’ll hopefully show up in a search, it wasn’t until I searched for Versa gold 2008 check printing that I found this site.
It sucks to prey on the unemployed, but then again it sucks to prey on anyone.
I got the same info and had her email me the info so I could do the research, that info lead me to this report. I am so glad it did. This is the email I sent back to her. I know it won’t do anything to slow them down but maybe she will have nightmares!!

I’ve read all of the scams listed on this website and was surprised at how many their are. They seem to change their emails and names, yet it is possible that some are the same person. I am a real accountant looking for work and was nearly scammed by this one on Odesk. Claiming to be affiliated with a textile company in the UK, I responded thinking that it was a legitimate job. They replied through a recruiter, sending me a job description. So far everything seemed all right. I went to the website and looked. It said they were building the web. Okay, that is possible. But as I searched on google I found many other ads run on other job search engines. I researched the real company that had a different name, yet the information he listed in the email matched with their company mission statement. Okay. Then he began requesting, firmly I’d say, for me to purchase a printer, software and checks and that there would be 1,970 checks issued a month. Yet, he could not do the math. Who can issue that many checks a month part time? And how does the ordering of 750 checks even cover the needs for the month. I wasn’t going to do anything until I had paperwork from the company stating that I was hired (on their stationery) and what the salary would be and the date and signed by him. I requested a signature card from the bank with their account number on it. I will not issue checks until my signature is added to their bank account. That is standard business procedure. I asked for a phone number in the United States, because it was obvious the emails were coming from California. I requested a phone interview. I didn not hear back from him and he was removed from the website. But, he has posted ads on many websites claiming to be from Beris Textiles. There are many websites listed that are filled with similar scams. I found multiple scams with textile company names.
