wonderfulnanny.com – I’ve been scammed by the Nanny!

I’ve been scammed by the nanny, yes folks you heard me correct. I’m so angry right now! www.wonderfulnanny.com is a bad bad place, with bad bad people! A few months ago, there was a job ad in the local paper. This ad was for the position of a nanny for two little girls. The hours would be 8:00am to 6:00pm. Why on why do I fall for this junk? So, since I’m looking for a job, I went to the website. It all looks legit, till you pay the $10.00 application fee! It’s a big scam and I’m stinking angry!

So they have my $10.00, and that doesn’t seem like much, but how many 0ther people have paid this? According to the google seach that I did on the phone numbers that are given, lots and lots of people have paid…enough for it to be concidered a felony, if only they could find them. The address that they use, turns out to be an empty building that is up for sale. Oh yes, I’m angry. Angry at myself for falling for such junk, and angry at whoever it is that is doing this scam. In my own defense, I assumed that the $10.00 would be used for the background check. I’ve had to pay this before with other jobs, such as the board of education. Hardly any company pays for this themselves, so I thought maybe that’s what it was for. I’ve learned my lesson! I’m so glad I didn’t send them my resume!! Wonderful Nanny, my rear!! Oh yes, did I mention that the position was to pay $700.00 a week or $14.00 per hour? Wouldn’t that catch your eye??

Today I looked in my local paper in Tucson, AZ. As soon as I saw that they paid $700 a week I thought something was fishy. So I called and as soon as I heard that man’s voice I knew. Total Fraud!!!

Any kind of place that charges you to apply is phony. I hope this gets across so no one else is sucked into to this scam!!!! You never know what they can do while having your credit card information.

  3. Bill on March 5th, 2008 7:56 pm

It’s been in the local Kauai paper, too. Amazing how many people have let themselves be duped by this ad. If no one’s mentiioned it yet, “if it looks too good to be true, it is!”.
    Caveat Emptor.

  4. Eleanor on July 9th, 2008 3:21 pm

    Me too! It’s hit Pittsburgh…
Thank you thank you thank you for writing about this.
I was suspicious, but figured maybe it could be real.
Googled it just in case. thank you for the warning!

That makes me so angry, too. I’m going to call up the Pittsburgh Tribune and complain.

It’s quite obvious that many of us have been scammed and many felt maybe this might be a golden chance to make a good living with just a small investment of just $10.00. When I read the ad in our local newspaper, I actually thought this might a great opportunity since my kids are now in high school. I can’t decide whether this scam operations preys on those without access to a computer even though the call directs the caller to apply on the website? Once I logged onto the site, there were several pages of complaints of being scammed.

For those who have already lost their $10.00 and were kind enough to warn others, lets fight back.. What I did was after I read the many forums describing this as a scam was call back the number in the ad. I left a message saying I was very much interested but didn’t have a computer or a phone. Could they please kindly contact my probation officer number and he would relay the information to me.

Get creative! These people need to be beat at their own game. Waste their time and you waste their money.

  12. Jillian on September 26th, 2008 3:21 pm

This phony as has popped up in Newport News, VA as well. Beware!!!! This company is also going by Rodney J Murphy & Associates. They have also moved to getting your money OUTSIDE of Paypal, by just putting your credit card information in. Thank you to everyone else who’s wised up to this and let unsuspecting people know!

And shame on them to be creating a scam with a job like nannying, one of the most important occupations ever. I’m going to call my newspaper and report the ad. Hopefully if everyone would do that, we could block them from reaching more people!

  13. sharon on September 26th, 2008 5:14 pm

Glad a lot of people find this site very useful. Thanks to everyone who reports these scammers!

MAYBE IF WE GO TO OUR POLICE DEPT. AND HAD THEM THIS PHONE NUMBER LET THEM CALL AND SEE WHAT THEY GET. WITH THE HELP OF THE FBI WE ALL MIGHT BE ABLE TO GET THESE MEN OR WOMAN AND PUT THEM IN JAIL WHERE THEY BELONG.
ARE YOU ALL WITH ME.? WE CAN ALL DO THIS ON MONDAY MORNING, I AM. I KNOW OUR LOCAL CHIEF REAL WELL AND WILL SPEAK TO HIM ABOUT THIS. WE CAN ALSO JUST GET ON THE FBI WEB SITE AND REPORT THIS.
WE CAN NOT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH HURTING ANYONE ELSE.

  17. Elizabeth C on October 11th, 2008 2:58 pm

They hit Hickory NC. It is in the local paper and said weekly rate $700. That alone made me think. So I went on to read what people had to say before I ever went to the site. Thanks for the post

  18. Margie on October 12th, 2008 8:04 pm

How Clever these people are!! Or do they think that we the people are DUMB!!
The $700 dollars a week is a dead give away in a newspaper ad that something is wrong.
Those of us who look at scams first and respond to the authorities next will be the winners. The newspapers should be held accountable for accepting their money for a scam. They should check them out first too.
Let’s all spread the word about these deadbeats…

    thank you,

  19. Lela on October 15th, 2008 2:05 pm

I saw the add in Chester Ca-to good to be true, so searched on line and your website came up. Thanks for confirming what that little voice was saying in my head-scam, scam, scam!!!!

  20. Lynn Winter on October 21st, 2008 3:50 pm

It’s hit small town Fernandina Beach Fl. as well. Glad I looked you guys up. Anytime they want you to pay beware!!! People are desperate for work in small towns, and they are sad people preying on the economy and bashing the work of real nanny’s… Hopefully they can get busted before anyone else pays thier much needed gas or grocery money..

  21. Bethany on November 3rd, 2008 3:59 pm

Just saw the same add in my local newspaper advertising this job in Taylor, MI Figured it was a scam… who has $700 a week to pay a babysitter in this economy? lol

  22. Fran Sciacca on November 6th, 2008 9:41 am

Been scammed here in Southwest Florida. too. Same MO, $700 week, 3 yr old girl and 18month baby. After not hearing anything, I followed up with it and discovered I was probably being scammed. I have contacted paypal whom I paid through and placed a complaint. I have to wait 4 days then if “Rodney J Murphy & Associates do not reply, I can call back and escalate the complaint into a claim. If anyone else used Paypal, I urge you to contact them and do the same. I am also going to contact the sheriffs dept, as I have a friend and see what they can do. I am also going to contact the FBI as reading above I see Rodney has been all over the country, scamming us folks that are just trying to make a living.
“Vengence is mine saith the LORD” Great website whoever created this

  23. Fran Sciacca on November 6th, 2008 9:49 am

I would also like to add that if you used paypal or any kind of a credit card, verify with customer service if this charge was set up to re-occur on a monthly, quarterly or any other timeline. You don’t want to get charged again. If you used Paypal just click on cancel transaction or call Paypal Customer Service at 402-935-7733

  25. Fran Sciacca on November 20th, 2008 8:06 am

My original post date was November 6th. I just wanted to let you all know that Pay Pal escalated this to a claim and they will be returning my money to me. Good Luck to you all.

  26. Jennifer Hale on December 5th, 2008 11:43 am

Sorry to hear that folks are now taking advantage of people who want to care for children. But just a little FYI, $700 is standard nanny pay in most areas so it wasn’t completely out of line.

  27. Cheryl on December 6th, 2008 8:31 pm

It’s hit Ann Arbor Michigan now…. sooo stupid!! I also wish someone would catch them

  28. Julie on December 9th, 2008 3:05 pm

Wonderfulnanny.com has also hit Little Rock, Arkansas.

  29. Ted on December 15th, 2008 10:10 am

Same scam in Orlando Sentinel on December 15.

  30. Tiffany on December 30th, 2008 1:18 pm

It hit San Antonio, Texas. I can’t believe I saw this site today I was on wonderfulnanny.com last night but decided to wait till today to go through with it. When I tried to pull up the site on my phone this came up. $10 isn’t that much, but when you can’t afford to waist it, it is. Thank you.

  31. Lauren on January 4th, 2009 5:50 pm

    It’s in H’burg Mississippi.That’s awfully clever. It’s a georgia number that i called.

  32. Julie on January 6th, 2009 3:41 pm

Rodney J Murphy & Assoc. aka wonderfulnanny.com is running this scam in Pocatello, Idaho. Shameless THIEVES!!!!!

  33. Angela on January 6th, 2009 8:09 pm

I’m in Petal, MS. I saw this ad and didn’t know what to think. I called the number and got the recording and checked out the website. Luckily I read this first. It is crazy what people will do these days. It is really sad. Whoever is behind this will get what they deserve. And it will be alot worse than a $10 loss.

  34. Fran Sciacca on January 7th, 2009 7:49 am

I was able to get my $10 refunded through paypal. I’ve done some research and this actually needs to be reported to the FBI. Go on http://www.FBI.gov and find your local FBI agent. If the FBI gets enough calls on this, something will be done. But everyone must call. Make sure you have all the information.

  35. Dulcie Carter on January 25th, 2009 10:52 pm

The ad has also hit Raleigh, NC. It states there is a position available in the North Raleigh area paying $700.00 a week. I am contacting the police department. There is probably not anything that can be done about the ad. There has been no return phone call for the position.

  36. ashley on January 26th, 2009 2:34 pm

yes everyone much to the suprizement it has reached lawton oklahoma as well. a military town! i dont know how many military wifes had fallen for this. but i too called the number although it was my father who found it and thougt i might give it a try since im not to happy with my job now. i told him it seemed to funny to me that i would have to go online to apply so i wasnt going to go through with it… a week later he told me that it was no longer in the paper and said it seemed funny that it was only in there for a week since out here all ads run at a two week min. so i wanted to look more into this. when i went to the website after reading other sites about the scam they have going on, i foud it to odd that they only mention the one opening for the 700 a week ad. no address no town and no state to where this was… and yet they no longer had the as in the paper. so i clicked on a different thing on the site and we are not the only ones they scam i found that people can go to the site to put in for a needed nanny, only they have to pay 305.00! they need to be stopped and soon!

  37. julie on January 30th, 2009 1:12 pm

This just hit Sacramento CA. I forwarded the ad to me friend because she wants to nanny like I do. $700 per week is not unheard of, as I make $803 per week. The pay is so high to cover health insurance and gas. I am so glad I googled it before she could get the chance to apply. Lame.

  38. Rebekah on February 1st, 2009 10:36 am

Thank you for posting this about the wonderful nanny company. I live in FL and it’s in the local paper here. This needs to stop….people need to stop fucking with our minds and money. Times are tough enough as is right now. These people need to go to jail for fraud. Someone needs to stop them. Thank you thank you for writing about this.

  39. Bee on February 2nd, 2009 1:07 pm

Now they have advertised here in Portland, Maine….!

  40. Allette on February 15th, 2009 7:16 pm

Thanks for the warning guys. With low paying jobs here in South Carolina that ad would look inviting. I just figured it was some couple who are well off with money and the $700/wk would cover medical/dental/retirement.

  41. ashley parks on February 17th, 2009 3:30 pm

I saw the same thing in my local paper!! and i fell for it, i wasnt sure if it was real! now i know its a scam!!! i guess i lost my 10 dollars too, even though they say you can get your money back, best believe i sent them an e-mail speaking my mind!

  42. julie on February 17th, 2009 7:02 pm

This post is for Ashley and anyone else who has been duped ; myself included. If you made a payment through Paypal, file a dispute. Then after the specified amount of time, file a claim. I received a full refund through Paypal.

I lost my job 2 months ago. I saw this ad for wonderfulnanny.com and thought what a God send this would be, and just in time! I only typed in wonderfuln and the google dropdown box completed the rest. I thought this is very strange since I am using my son’s laptop and no one else could have possibly already searched this word. Thank God to whoever started this site or I would have fallen prey as well. linda in New Orleans

This is BS. I have been out of work for a year, constantly looking for work. To be scammed like this makes me very angry. Luckily I did some research before I sent them any money. Thank you for posting this. I have also turned this “agency” into the local paper. so if you find this in your area call your paper and report it.

I am from North Carolina and just saw this ad in the Sunday paper. So, I called it and the guy sounds like a child porn master. I could not believe it. I am so glad that I checked this out and found this web page with the comments that ya’ll have said.
“If it sounds to good to be true…..it probably is.
Thanks to those people who prey on people that really need a job. I hope that they get caught and get what is coming to them. I hope that someday, they are the one on unemployment and looking for a job to help with the family bills, but wait….why earn a decent and honest income when you can fricken lie your way through life!

I just saw an ad for this in the local newspaper of the Hudson Valley, NY. Once I went to the website and saw you had to pay to apply, it seemed bogus. Good luck to everyone!

If you get ripped off by this guy – call paypal (888-221-1161) AND file a complaint on http://www.ic3.gov – this is a direct connection to the FBI internet crime division.
