I spent about £120 in the afore mentioned shop. when i returned home i find they have taken £576.08 from my account, can i do anything about it.?
My husband and I were also conned into buying a video camera when we got home we could not charge it tried another charger it still did not charge and the company Yashica has been out of business for some time.
They asked for our Credit Card but, we refused to give them it and paid cash instead. Stay well clear of this shop but, this is not the only shop my friends were conned in another shop in Benidorm also run by people of the same ethnic standing therefore I would not buy anything from any of these camera shops in Benidorm.
i just cant believe what happened.i passed a sony shop in benidorm when i stopped to look at a sony digital camera in the window.an asian man came outside and said i could purchase it for 43 euros!he said it was worth 300 pounds in england.my 14 yr old son was there n i wanted to buy it him for a treat.we were told it came with all the cables, battery, guarantee etc so i handed over the 43 euros.as soon as i had paid he said that it wouldnt work in england and that the battery would only work twice.i said that it was ridiculous to sell me something that was useless to me!he told me to shut up n not to talk to him in that tone!i had my neice with me who was only 3,my son at 14 n my brother n sister in law.then the other asian man started closing the shop front door trying to intimidate us all.we ended up paying an extra 60 euros for another camera which totally wiped all my money out.im a single parent who saved up for a whole year to afford this holiday.i am a naturally firey person, who, under normal circumstances would never ever tolerate this treatment.i feel humiliated, angry n totally stupid.i hope sony, cannon,n spain realise that something needs to be done about these men.its a disgrace, its fraud,n to be told you are not getting your money bk when you have been sold a camera,n u havnt even left the shop,is a complete piss take.i wish the worst on the lot of them.the very worst.
If anyone out there knows how we can approach these problems, please let us know, as I for one would like my money back, but have no idea how to go about it, and any help / suggestion would be very much appreciated.
maybe we need to get in touch with sony and cannon about trusting the shops when we see the trusted names of sony n cannon advertised all over the walls and windows.it needs to stop.its totally unacceptable.lets get our thinking caps on!
hi,everyone,
ive just returned from benidorm where i was conned into paying 636 euro for a camcorder.
the shop was A-MAX on the front of levante beach and they too were asian.
i had already bought a camcorder from a legitamate shop for 296 euro but while the wife was window shopping the asian guy in this shop (which was next to the shop the wife was in) asked if i was interested in a camera ,which i repkied i had just bought a camcorder .
he asked if he could have a look and i showed him it to which he replied that it was a good camera but the battery woulnd not last long.
so he sold me a 8hr size battery and a case for 100euro,
his mate then approached me to demonstrate a slim full hd camera and compared the two running and i could clearly see it was a far better picture, then he gets the box off the shelf and places it on the counter with a price tag facing you showing a ridiculous price 1229,96euro .straight away you think no way am i paying this!
then he offered to reduce the price by 65% and took my new camera as part ex and knocks off the 100euro id just spent and got the price down to 240eoro to pay.
i thought great what a bargain, i paid using a different visa card thinking i would be protected.
at that we went on our way pleased with our new camera.
next morning we went onto the internet in the hotel to check how much the camera was in the uk as the salesman said they were £700 in currys
but to our surprise they is no reference to sharpixels cameras anywhere but there were posts about the same scams in tenerife .
we were fuming,we stewed in our hotel room all night, the next morning we visited the market and got talking to an english guy who had a stall there and his spanish friend on the next stall told us to go back to the shop and threaten them with the GUARDIA not the local police you must say to the shop if you dont re imburse me the money i am going to DENOUNCE YOUR SHOP TO THE GUARDIA, the spanish guy told me he bets i get my money back.
if they refuse go to your hotel reception and get them to contact the GUARDIA they usually arrive within the hour.
THIS IS A GENUINE THREAT TO THE SHOP OWNER, IT PUTS THE WIND UP THEM AS THE GUARDIA WILL INVESTIGATE ALL TILL RECEIPTS NOT JUST YOURS.
in our case we were due to fly but we did go back and threaten them with the guardie to which we got a camera exchange to a name we recognised and are happy with the camera, however after arriving home some hours later we found thew same camera for £130, we lost out about £350, foned the visa company up who said if the camera is working ok they could do nothing.
hope this helps you all out there, but the key thing to remember is to THREATEN THE SHOP BY SAYING YOU WILL DENOUNCE THIS SHOP TO THE GUARDIA WHOE WILL BE HERE WITHIN THE HOUR,,BET YOU GET YOUR MONEY BACK
THANXS….ROB….
I have just bought a camera from Megapix on Avda Mediterraneo Edif Ducado 41 Local 42 Benidorm. I too have been took to the cleaners. I bought a Nicon camera plus a 1Gb card and case which cost 95€. when I had paid for it with my credit card I was told it would only take 10 pictures and the battery would then have to be charged for 24hr.He then told me would exchange the camera for another that was made by Hitachi and that you could take over 1200 pictures with, if i gave him another 45€.I eventualy got it down to 25 € more and now find there isn’t such a camera HITEKHD X91nv made by Hitachi or any other reputerble company So my 60€ camera ended up costing me 120€ and is a load of rubbish. Please help me stop this Scam going on any suggestions please
Maria
Please keep a note od Sonia Electronics in Vigilia Park, Puerto de Santiago , Tenerife. I was also caught by a very plausible sounding asian salesman named Ryan who sold me a Sharpixels SH-10 video camera.
I can find no reference to these cameras on the net anywhere except on the ‘scam’ pages.
Although mine is currently working fine, except for the fact I was given one incorrect lead. I am now finding it very difficult to locate a compatible usb lead for this camera which may very well make it useless if one cannot be located.
There were other dealers in the same arcade who were carrying out similar scams so beware !
HI! I live in benidorm and recently the police has caught many elctronic shopkeepers since they were passing various times credit cards of tourist giving excuse that there machine were not functionig.so if u were been rippoed off pl.contact benidorm police there Nª is (966 831 377).Im sure these people will be caught & pherhaps u will get your money back.
Like Maria Mosley, my husband and I also got conned in Megapix the younger man was very friendly at first but when we suspected something was wrong after spending about £150 (we were also told the battery would not last and you could not buy the memory card in the UK) he became very aggressive and actually said “you are not in Scotland now” my stomach was churning and I wanted to give him a piece of my mind as did my husband but by this time there were another 3 older Indian guys hovering just inside the shop and we were the only customers we ended up paying over £250 for a really crap camera it is a disgrace these shops can operate with the Sony,JVC etc logos
I Think I was in the same shop as Lessa Banks more or less the same situation when I said just give us a camera that will work for the money we have paid you he said “you are not in Scotland now” I felt quite sick after that (see previous post”
MEGAPIX BENIDORM is another place to avoid like the plague, £200.00 for a camera a kid would throw away if he was unlucky enough to find it in a lucky bag, Mastercard are on to this pond life so I hope they sort them out, going back to benidorm soon, does anybody know where I can buy a good quality baseball bat by the way.
Update on my post of December 2010 at 5.03pm (paid £250 for crap camera in MEGAPIX Benidorm)
After many hours scanning the internet for justice I found a government website with the info I needed.
We got our money back from credit card company under section 75 of the consumer credit act 1974. Credit card company had asked for a specialist report so I took the crap camera to an authorised Sony dealer and he very kindly gave me verification that “the YBERSONYCAM” shown to me is not a genuine Sony camcorder. There are no parts or indication of any Sony parts” I think this had great input towards us obtaining a refund. Everyone DO NOT PAY CASH IF YOU ARE THE SLIGHTEST BIT APPREHENSIVE OR FEEL UNDER PRESSURE use your credit card at least that way you have a chance to get your money back.
p.s. we got our money reimbursed in under 8 weeks. Hope this helps
In connection with above comment the chap in the Sony shop informed me THERE ARE NO OFFICIAL SONY OUTLETS IN SPAIN
i to bought a camera from sony dreams for 90 euros the camera worked but poor quality they did not like cash very fast talking the cameras in window are only for show you wont get one once money in till stay well away
After reading through these messages ?I feel compelled to also bring to your attention another phoney electronic shop. The receipt shows ‘Kings’ Avda Mediterraneo, 56 – Edif Veracruz. I too was lured into this shop and bought a ‘SHARPIXELS 20 MEGA Pixel MAX ‘the cost was 149€ plus 20€ for a memory card. Stupidly I bought this during ‘holiday mode’ so my grey matter was also on holiday. I wrongly assumed the camera was something to do with the Sharp manufacturer. It was only after I returned home that I started comparing the quality of the pictures against my mobile phone (3.2 megapixel) I was more than suspicious especially after reading the Tenerife scams on this particular model camera. I shall be returning to Benidorm this weekend with the full intention of mentioning the Guardia and a denuncia to see what happens if no refund is offered. I shall keep you posted!
