It happened to me too. She kept wanting to send me the check and wouldn’t speak to me on the phone. When I started asking too many questions and insisted on speaking with her she stopped emailing me. The whole email sounded like it wwasn’t a mother speaking about her daughter. The only thing I couldn’t understand is what they had to gain by it. What do you think?

  2. Dana Needham on February 3rd, 2009 3:14 pm

Exactly – what dot hese people have to gain? This has also happened to me with personal training. Same situation – give me your name and address and I’ll give you a check! If anyone knows anything please inform me!

    Thanks -

    Dana

    Dana,

In exchange for a check they will ask you to pay a small fee (via Western Union, Money Gram, etc). The problem is, the check they give you is fake — but by the time you find out, you would have sent them your “real”money already.

You end up with nothing. They get the real deal!

I called Sittercity after I saw this on here. That is where I first found the ad. The man told me that when they send you the pay that you agree on they also send extra. He said usually a lot extra. Then they tell you sorry that it was a mistake and could you please send them back the rest western union. I guess they assume your bank cashed it already. By the time they get it your bank calls you and tells you it was a fraudulent check and now you owe the bank. Now I don’t quite understand how that works, because I know my bank would hold the check until it cleared for an excessive amount of money. However, maybe some banks that are smaller don’t. The man from sittercity took her off their site. He also told me that on his site is a whole bunch of scams to help potential sitters out. It is a little hard to find on his site, but it there. I wonder how many people fall for this!

OH MY GOSH!!! This woman tried to scam me too!!! I didn’t deposit the check into my account (thank God) but i took it to the bank it was issued from. They wouldn’t cash it because they said that the account had insufficient funds.

This woman dragged me along with her little scheme for about two months. She said her name was Juila Cohen and that she was a surgeon down in Georgia. She was coming to California for a conference which she was supposed to speak at. Her daughter, Mary, is 3 years old and is super cute. She even went as far as telling me that she was staying at a hotel very close to my place. She sent a check from Magan Medical group. Asked me to forward some of it to a toy store and then keep the rest for my first weeks pay.

Anyway, WHO IS THIS WOMAN??? and why would you prey on honest people using sittercity.com? Does she even profit from this scam? I dont think so.

ARGH! I am so upset! I emailed sittercity.com to make sure they knew and they said that they banned her from the cite.

I wish there was a way to find whoever is doing this and throw them in jail.

    To KC N.

I was told by sittercity why they do this. Look at the entry before yours to see my explanation. Also, sittercity has a whole bunch of scams on their site to tell you about. Too bad the person (man or woman) can’t be caught!

I am always suspicious of anyone asking for my full name, address, and phone number, plus the way she talked about her “daughter” and the fact that her email was so poorly written seemed off to me. I had my boyfriend check it out and he showed me this site. This really irks me because I desperately need a job, not people preying on honest, hardworking people like me!

I saw this and fell for it too! I just got my response from her, the first one and thought it strange someone would hire me to watch their child and not even meet me first. Thanks to all who have reported this on here . You saved me from making a huge mistake. Its terrible someone would do this when so many people are desperate for work. What a rotten person she is. Thanks again!

    Hello Irene

I got your mail and it really sounds great. I am very sure that my baby is in safe hands with you. You will have to take care of Mary from 10am – 3pm from Monday to Friday for those dates. I will surely get back if the need arise, but my baby is healthy and she can easily adapt to new environment. We will be staying at Regency Inn & Suites. Mary will be glad playing with your children too and also with the help of her toys, you don’t have any problem because she loves playing with toys.

I have arranged the toys from the store. I have just finalized with the toy store manager about the items my baby will be needing while you care for her. I want to inform you on how to make the payment for the items so you can have them ready before our arrival. I will mail your first week payment together with the cost of items purchased hopefully next week. As soon as you get the check cashed, you will have to deduct your first week payment and forward the balance to the toy store sales representative via western union money transfer (money in minutes), being payment for the toys Mary will be needing while you take care for her. Below is the western union payment detail for the store representative:

    NAME: FRANCIS J HULTBERG JR

    CITY: WILMINGTON

    STATE: DE

    ZIP CODE: 19804

As soon as the fund is sent, I want you to get back to me via email with the details below:

    ———Senders Name….

    ———Senders Address….

    ———MTCN Number (10 Digits Number)….

    ———Exact Amount Sent……

———Western Union Charges. (Amount used for sending the money

which will be deducted from the balance)

I hope this is clear to you. I will be waiting your reply before I proceed to mailing the payment to you

    Thank You,

    Best Regards,

    Julia Cohen.

    Good Morning Julia,

I have a few questions I would like for you to answer please. I will have Mary from 10.00 a.m. Un till 3:00 p.m. only?
If she gets sick (God for bid) can she see a doctor here? can you get here from your seminar if need be?
    Is Mary potty trained?
Will I have her for only 10 days?
Where will you be staying in which hotel which city?

If I have her for 5 hours a day I will charge you $200.00 a week that includes meals.I have a car seat so I will not need one. I will care for her as if she was mine. My son that I adopted is 4 1/2 and he goes to school from 8:00 a.m. Till 1:45 p.m. There is not much time for him to play with Mary but he loves younger kids. I also have three teens one 12, 13, and 15 who would love to play with Mary but they don’t get out of school un till 3:30 p.m. Except for Wednesdays there out at 1:00p.m. I pick the girls up at 3:30 M,T TH,F so Mary either has to be picked up by 3:00p.m. Or wait un till 4:00p.m.

I really thought it was legit but my gut was telling me otherwise. She wrote me the same exact stuff; however, she did send me a check and said to send it to this person that I looked up and found this site this is horrible how do we stop her? I want to know if my account is going to be negative I fell for the check because my bank cashed it what should I do? I planned on sending the Western Union tonight. Good day to you. Hope you’re doing well? This is what she wrote so I knew something was up. I’m going to make a complaint because I really was looking forward to caring for her daughter since I have four of my own it just was strange how she needed me to order special toys in the amount of $902.
    What should I do?

I am really sorry for the delay in the commencement of your service and also the mailing of your payment. The checks was mailed last week by my personal assistant but was mailed to the wrong address. Your service will also be commencing on Thursday because the seminar was schedule to commence on 4th of June as stated by the Board of Surgeon and I hope you ain’t mad about this Here is the mailing information for the paycheck covering the first week payment for your services of babysitting my girl, as well as payments for the items purchased for Mary from the store. The payment would be delivered to you precisely 12noon tomorrow.
